30-year fixed-rate down to 2.65%

Writer: Nancy MoellerNancy Moeller

The average rate for the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage fell to 2.65 percent for the week ending January 7, the lowest number ever recorded by Freddie Mac since the government-sponsored enterprise began tracking weekly rate fluctuations in 1971. This is down 1% from the same week last year.

For those wanting to pay off their mortgages in half the time, the 15-year fixed-rate averaged just 2.16% for the week ending January 7.

No matter the last time you financed, it's time to check with your lender to see if a refinance makes sense for you.
